An 8 x 10 print ready for framing and an instant conversation starter! Description reads: “The Enemy of Progress, also known as the Burrowing Beast of the Santa Monica Mountains, has struck again. The malicious monster destroyed part of a promotional sign for Mr. Harry Chandler’s new “Hollywoodland” real estate development. “Will nothing quell this Beast’s insatiable hunger?” wondered Honorable Mayor George E. Cryer. This is the first sighting of the monster since its 1922 attack on the castle set of “The Adventures of Robin Hood” that resulted in the death of our beloved Douglas Fairbanks and visiting comedian Charles Chaplin. There are no plans to rebuild the sign. — October 26, 1923”

The Monster in Santa Monica

This 11 x 17 picture depicts a view of the elegant Santa Monica hotel in better days, right before it was destroyed by a large creature of unknown origin. Some speculate that it is similar to the creature that first appeared in Pittsburgh in 1876, which others contend that the entire “monster” was nothing but a fabrication by one of those upstart motion picture companies.
